Claims, coding, denials, AR, and credentialing from billing companies that take on practices in San Diego, CA. Describe your practice once and compare their proposals.
A few questions about the practice, then billing companies that fit send proposals. You are not committing to anything.
Hand off all of it or just the parts that are breaking. Say which in the form so the proposals match.
Charges entered, claims checked against payer edits, and sent daily so clean claims go out the first time.
Every denial worked, appealed, or corrected, with the root cause tracked so the same denial stops repeating.
Old balances called on and worked by payer and by age until they are paid, adjusted, or written off on purpose.
Certified coders assign CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers from your notes, or audit the codes your providers pick.
New providers enrolled with payers, CAQH kept current, and revalidations handled before they lapse.
Statements, online payment, payment plans, and the phone calls that come with them, handled in your name.
Eligibility checks, prior authorizations, and old AR cleanup go through the same request. If you only need one piece, say so.
There is no right answer for every practice. The usual tradeoffs:
A San Diego practice can see Tricare, Medi-Cal, Medicare Advantage and group-assigned commercial patients in one morning. The systems are Sharp, Scripps, UC San Diego Health and Kaiser Permanente run large networks, Palomar Health serves the north county, and Rady Children's is the main children's hospital. Add the military: Naval Medical Center San Diego and the Camp Pendleton clinics treat active duty families, and many of the county's retirees and veterans use Tricare or the VA.
Independent offices are plentiful in La Jolla, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Escondido and Chula Vista, and the south bay has a patient base that sometimes crosses the border for care in either direction. Like the rest of California, commercial coverage is split among medical groups and IPAs that receive a monthly payment per patient and process claims for their members, and a patient's card tells you less than the group assignment behind it. Medi-Cal managed care is the largest public payer. Medicare Advantage is strong among the retired population in the north county and east county.
The mess has a few specific edges. Credentialing has to be repeated with each plan and often with each group. Tricare has its own contractor and its own authorization rules, and many offices handle it badly or avoid it. Biotech and military-adjacent employers pull skilled administrative staff, so billing jobs turn over, and a practice can lose the one person who understood the Medi-Cal rejection codes. If you run an office here, say on the form how many groups and plans you hold contracts with, and whether Tricare or out-of-network work makes up any real share of your visits.
